The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake — the lakeside hotel for Powai's offices

Formerly the Renaissance, now Marriott's Westin: a 600-plus-room resort-style hotel on the bank of Powai Lake, next to IIT Bombay and the Hiranandani business parks. The default for conferences in the suburbs and for anyone whose work is in Powai.

Chapter One — The property

What makes The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake worth booking

The honest positioning — what this hotel is, and who it suits.

The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake is the big hotel of the eastern suburbs: a lakefront property on Powai Lake with more than 600 rooms, a 13,000 sq ft pillar-free Grand Ballroom and a resort layout that most Mumbai business hotels can't offer. It was the Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel until Marriott rebranded it as a Westin, and the convention-centre DNA is still the point.

It suits companies with offices in Powai and Hiranandani Gardens — the hotel is minutes from the business parks and a short walk from IIT Bombay; organisers of large conferences, dealer meets and annual events, who need one venue with the rooms attached; and families and long-stay guests who want a pool, lawns and lake views rather than a tower on a highway.

What it isn't: a South Mumbai or BKC hotel. Powai is north-east of the airport, and getting to Nariman Point or the consulate from here means crossing the city. If your meetings are in BKC, stay in BKC and visit Powai for the day.

Chapter Two — Location & access

Where it sits — and what’s nearby

Distances that matter for business travellers and leisure guests alike.

Powai is a self-contained district — the Hiranandani business parks, IIT Bombay, the lake and a dense run of restaurants — and the Westin sits on the lake at the edge of it. For work in Powai, Vikhroli or Chandivali it's the obvious base; for the airport it's a reasonable 25-minute run outside peak hours.

Distances that matter

  • IIT Bombay main gate: A few minutes' walk
  • Hiranandani Gardens business parks: About 5 to 10 minutes
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (T2): About 7 km — 25 to 45 minutes, traffic depending
  • Vikhroli / Godrej offices, LBS Road: About 15 to 25 minutes
  • Bandra Kurla Complex: About 40 to 60 minutes, traffic depending
  • Nariman Point / South Mumbai: 75 to 100 minutes, traffic depending

Getting there

The hotel is on the lake side of Powai, near Chinmayanand Ashram, off the road that loops around Powai Lake. From the airport, drivers take the JVLR; from the Eastern Express Highway, the approach is via Vikhroli. For an event, the hotel handles coach drop-offs at the convention entrance — tell us the headcount and we'll pass it on.

Chapter Four — Why book through us

What we handle at The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake that OTAs can’t

Small things that matter when your booking runs into real-world friction.

The specific things we do for this hotel

  • Built for events — we quote it that way. The Westin's Grand Ballroom and eleven other venues are why companies book it. For a conference or dealer meet we quote the room block, the ballroom and the breakouts on one sheet, with the rooming list managed by us, so you negotiate once.
  • Powai visits matched to the office. If your work is at a specific Hiranandani tower or at IIT, tell us the address: we confirm the commute, request a quiet-side room for a working week, and set up a late checkout if your last meeting runs into the evening.
  • GST invoicing done right. We take your company's legal name and GSTIN at booking so the invoice is issued correctly first time. At this rate level the stay falls in the 18% GST slab, which a GST-registered company can claim back.
  • One person through the stay. Speaker rooms to add at the last minute, a guest arriving early, an invoice to split between two cost centres — you message one person who already has the booking open.

Chapter Six — FAQ

Common questions about The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake

Yes. The hotel was the Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel for years and was rebranded as The Westin Mumbai Powai Lake under Marriott. Same building, same lakefront site and convention centre; the rooms and public areas were refreshed with the rebrand.

About 7 km — typically 25 to 45 minutes to T2 depending on the time of day, longer at evening peak. For an early morning international flight, allow the full hour or ask us about an airport hotel for the last night.

The Grand Ballroom is about 13,000 sq ft, pillar-free, and seats up to around 1,200 theatre-style — one of the largest hotel ballrooms in Mumbai. There are a dozen venues in all, so breakouts can run alongside the plenary. We quote the venue together with the rooms.

Usually within about 5% for the same room type on the same date — sometimes a little higher, sometimes lower. What you get with us: a proper GST invoice, early check-in handled, and one person accountable for your stay.

Check-in is 3 PM and check-out is 12 noon. If you're arriving on a morning flight, tell us the landing time and we'll ask the hotel for an early check-in; if there's a charge we'll tell you before you confirm.
