Chapter One

Notes from us, on Singapore

Things we’d tell a friend before they booked. Specific, opinionated, occasionally inconvenient.

i.

Sentosa is a brilliant two nights, not a whole trip.

Families book five nights on Sentosa and spend three of them taking the monorail into town. Two nights on Sentosa for Universal and the beach, then move to Orchard or Marina Bay. The hotel move takes 20 minutes and the trip gets better.

Reverse it if you fly out late — Sentosa last, slow morning, airport in 25 min.

ii.

Marina Bay Sands is a view, not a hotel for everyone.

The infinity pool is the reason to stay, and it is worth it once. But rooms are expensive for what they are and the lobby is a theme park. Fullerton, Pan Pacific and Ritz-Carlton Millenia give you the same skyline, quieter. Couples: MBS one night, then move.

The pool is for hotel guests only — that is the whole value.

iii.

Indian food is a non-issue. Hotel breakfast is where it matters.

Little India, Race Course Road and the Mustafa area are 10 minutes from anywhere. For pure-veg and Jain families, what matters is whether the hotel breakfast has Indian options — the Orchard and Marina Bay 5-stars do; the mid-scale ones don’t. We tell you which.

Komala Vilas and MTR on Serangoon Road for a reliable South Indian fix.

Chapter Five

Before you book Singapore

Do Indians need a visa for Singapore?
Yes, applied in advance through an authorised visa agent; it usually takes 3–5 working days and is valid for multiple entries over 30 days to 2 years depending on what is issued. We handle the application as part of the booking.
Sentosa or the city?
Both — two nights on Sentosa if you are doing Universal Studios and the beaches, the rest on Orchard or Marina Bay. Staying only on Sentosa is the most common mistake we see.
Is Singapore good for vegetarians?
Excellent — Little India has dozens of pure-veg and Jain-friendly restaurants, and most 5-star breakfasts include Indian dishes. Tell us and we will pick a hotel where the breakfast works for you.
How far ahead should we book?
Six to eight weeks for Diwali, Christmas–New Year and the May–June school holidays; three to four weeks otherwise. Formula 1 week (late September / early October) doubles rates city-wide.
