i.
Spa weekend vs wellness programme — very different.
A spa weekend at a luxury hotel is two days of massages and a hot tub. A wellness programme at Ananda or Atmantan is 7–14 days of diet, treatments, dawn yoga, and digital detox. Different prices, different outcomes. Don’t book one expecting the other.
Spa weekend: any 5-star with a Banyan Tree/L’Occitane spa. Real programmes: Ananda Himalayas, Atmantan, Vana, SwaSwara.
ii.
Programmes vs walk-ins.
Serious Ayurveda centres run structured programmes — you arrive on a specific intake date, doctor consults you, you follow a custom regimen. Walk-in spa massages at the same property are a different service. If you want the real thing, you book the programme.
Real programmes: Ananda, Atmantan, Vana, SwaSwara, Niraamaya, Carnoustie, Soukya, Kalari Kovilakom.
iii.
Rishikesh and Kerala dominate — for good reasons.
Rishikesh has the yoga heritage and Ganga setting. Kerala has the centuries-old Ayurveda tradition and the climate that suits it. Other destinations (Goa, Pune outskirts, Lonavala) have wellness-branded resorts, but the depth is in those two states.
Rishikesh: Ananda, Vana, Atali Ganga, Taj Rishikesh. Kerala: Kalari Kovilakom, SwaSwara, Niraamaya, Carnoustie.
