Chapter One

Notes from us, on Bali

Things we’d tell a friend before they booked. Specific, opinionated, occasionally inconvenient.

i.

Split the trip. Nobody should spend seven nights in one Bali hotel.

The island takes 90 minutes to cross in traffic, so day-tripping from Nusa Dua to Ubud eats the day. Three nights by the beach, two in Ubud, one on a cliff is the honeymoon that works. Families: four Nusa Dua, two Ubud.

Ubud first if you land in the morning — the drive is prettier while you’re awake.

ii.

The visa is on arrival, but the queue isn’t fun.

Indians get a 30-day visa on arrival (IDR 500,000) and must also pay the Bali tourist levy (IDR 150,000). Both can be done online before you fly (e-VOA at molina.imigrasi.go.id, levy at lovebali.baliprov.go.id), and that skips the longest queue at Denpasar airport.

We send both links with your booking. Ten minutes, saves an hour.

iii.

Veg food is easy. Jain food takes planning.

Bali is full of vegetarian and vegan cafés, and every resort breakfast has plenty without meat. Jain and no-onion-garlic need to be arranged with the hotel in advance — the Nusa Dua resorts and AYANA are used to it; smaller Ubud resorts less so. There are Indian restaurants in Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua.

Queen’s Tandoor (Seminyak) and Ganesha Ek Sanskriti (Nusa Dua) are reliable.

Chapter Five

Before you book Bali

Do Indians need a visa for Bali?
A visa on arrival (IDR 500,000, 30 days, extendable once). You can pre-apply online as an e-VOA to skip the airport queue. Separately, Bali charges a tourist levy of IDR 150,000 per person, payable online before arrival. We send both links with the booking.
Which part of Bali for a honeymoon?
Split it: beach (Seminyak for lively, Nusa Dua for calm) + Ubud + one night on the Uluwatu cliffs. If you only pick one, Jimbaran/Uluwatu gives the best mix of beach, sunset and privacy.
Is Bali safe and easy for Indian families?
Yes — it is one of the easiest long-haul family destinations. Nusa Dua is gated and calm, the resorts have kids’ clubs, and Indian restaurants exist in every tourist area. Avoid the rainy season (Dec–Feb) if you can.
Flights direct or via Singapore?
Direct is 6–7 hours from Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru and worth paying for with kids. Via Singapore or KL adds a stop but lets you add two nights in Singapore on the way back — a popular combination.
