Hotels in Guindy — and on Anna Salai, the old business district

Guindy is where Chennai's airport, its industrial estate and its newer tech parks meet, and Anna Salai runs north from it through the old business district to the centre. Between them sits most of the city's non-IT work — and the metro line that joins the two.

What’s in Guindy and on Anna Salai

Guindy is the hinge of Chennai: the airport at Meenambakkam a few kilometres south-west, the Guindy industrial estate and the Olympia, DLF and Ekkattuthangal tech parks, the Mount Road end of Anna Salai, and the junction where the OMR corridor begins. Anna Salai — Mount Road — runs north from it through Teynampet and Thousand Lights to the centre, lined with the banks, the older corporate offices and the hotels that served them first. Nungambakkam and Alwarpet, to the west and east of it, hold the consulates, the hospitals and the restaurants.

The important thing: this is the non-IT Chennai, and the metro makes it easy. The Blue Line joins the airport, Guindy and Anna Salai; the OMR corridor to the south does not have that yet.

Three ways to choose

Guindy, for the estate, the tech parks and the airport. Hilton for the working week; ITC Grand Chola or Park Hyatt when the visit calls for it; Lemon Tree Premier and Holiday Inn Express for the per-diem.

Anna Salai, for the centre. Hyatt Regency, Taj Club House or Courtyard on Mount Road; the metro stations along it for the airport.

Nungambakkam and Alwarpet, for the consulates, hospitals and evenings. Taj Coromandel, Crowne Plaza Adyar Park, Welcomhotel Cathedral Road.

Planning tips

  • Work on the OMR too? Guindy and Velachery are the top of the corridor — see hotels on the OMR for the campus-by-campus view.
  • Conference in the city? ITC Grand Chola has the largest venues; Le Royal Meridien on GST Road is the alternative for fly-in events.
  • Team visits: for 10+ rooms ask for a meeting room in the same hotel — see our group booking guide.

Common questions

In Guindy — the Hilton is beside the estate and the Olympia and DLF parks, with Lemon Tree Premier and Holiday Inn Express at Ekkattuthangal for lower rates. ITC Grand Chola and Park Hyatt are the 5-star choices at the Mount Road end. The airport is ten to twenty minutes from all of them.

On Anna Salai itself — Hyatt Regency at Teynampet, Taj Club House and Courtyard on Mount Road — or in Nungambakkam at the Taj Coromandel if the meetings are at the consulates or the Nungambakkam offices. The Blue Line stations along Anna Salai make the airport run easy.

About 10 to 20 minutes by road, or four stops on the Blue Line from the airport to Guindy. It's the most convenient district in the city for an early flight.

Yes — the Blue Line runs from the airport through Guindy and Nandanam up Anna Salai (Teynampet, Thousand Lights, LIC) to Central and on to the north; the Green Line links Central to St Thomas Mount via Egmore and Vadapalani. For meetings along Anna Salai it beats the road at peak.
