Dubai with children — where to stay, and how to plan the days
Dubai is the easiest first foreign holiday for an Indian family: three hours from Mumbai, Indian food everywhere, and a city built around things to do with children. The decisions that matter are where you sleep and how you handle the heat.
Where to stay: three answers
The Palm or JBR — for children under ten. This is the resort end of Dubai. Atlantis, The Palm is the one every child has heard of, and guests get Aquaventure and the aquarium included, which turns a day’s entry fee into part of the room rate. A notch down in price, the Sofitel on the Palm and the Westin Mina Seyahi give you a big private beach and several pools, which is what actually saves a family holiday at 3 PM. JBR — Hilton Dubai Jumeirah, Rixos Premium — puts the beach, The Walk’s restaurants and the Ain Dubai wheel on foot.
Downtown — for older children and first-timers who want the famous Dubai. Address Downtown has the Burj Khalifa above the pool and Dubai Mall connected; Taj Dubai and the JW Marriott Marquis in Business Bay are a few minutes away with Indian kitchens and lower rates. You’ll taxi to the beach, but the fountains are a free show every evening.
Deira and Bur Dubai — for the budget and the old city. Cheaper, closer to the airport and the Indian restaurants of Karama, and a short metro ride to Downtown. The trade-off is a car to every beach and park.
The days: what’s worth it
- Aquaventure and the Lost Chambers aquarium (Palm). A full day. Free for Atlantis guests; a paid day out for everyone else. Go early, leave by 2 PM in the warmer months.
- Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall (Downtown). Half a day. Book the observation deck for late afternoon so you see daylight and the lights; the fountain show starts at dusk.
- Global Village. Evenings only, open roughly November to April. Cheap, outdoors, every country’s food — children love it and it’s the most Indian-friendly evening in the city.
- Desert safari. One evening. Dune bashing is not for very young children or anyone who gets car-sick; ask for the camp-only option instead.
- Abu Dhabi day trip. Ferrari World and Yas Island for older children, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque for everyone; about 90 minutes each way. Worth it on a five-night trip, skip it on four.
- Skip unless the children ask: the Miracle Garden (seasonal, long queues), the Frame (a view, nothing more), the gold souk with small children.
Five nights that work
| Day | Plan | Sleep |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrive, beach, early night | Palm / JBR |
| 2 | Aquaventure and the aquarium | Palm / JBR |
| 3 | Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa at sunset, fountains | Palm / JBR |
| 4 | Lazy morning, desert camp in the evening or Global Village | Palm / JBR |
| 5 | Abu Dhabi day trip, or a second beach day | Palm / JBR |
| 6 | Late checkout, fly home | — |
Staying in one hotel for all five nights is the right call with children. If you want Downtown as well, do two nights there first and three on the Palm, not the reverse — end the trip on the beach.
Practical
- Heat. Even in December, plan the outdoor thing for the morning and keep 2–5 PM for the pool. In summer, reverse the whole trip indoors.
- Getting around. The Metro covers the airport, Downtown and the Marina; the Palm and the beaches need taxis, which are metered, clean and cheap by Indian five-star standards.
- Money. The dirham sits around ₹23–24. Cards work everywhere; keep a little cash for the souks.
- Documents. Passports with six months’ validity, the e-visa printout, and the hotel confirmation — immigration does ask for it.
Tell us the children’s ages and your dates and we’ll send two or three hotels with live rates, a visa checklist and the airport transfer, on one WhatsApp thread. All of it invoiced in INR with GST.

The Palm or JBR if the children are under ten — beach, pools and a resort to retreat to in the afternoon heat. Downtown if they're older and the Burj Khalifa, the mall and the fountains are the point. Deira and Bur Dubai are cheaper and more Indian in feel but mean a taxi to every beach.
Yes, applied for in advance. The UAE e-visa comes through the airline or a travel agent in two to four working days; visa on arrival is only for Indians holding a valid US, UK or EU visa or green card. We help with the paperwork when you book the hotel.
Yes — it's the right length. Two days for the Palm (Aquaventure, the aquarium, the beach), one for Downtown and the mall, one for a desert evening or Global Village, and one for Abu Dhabi if you want it. More than six and the children are done with malls.
November to March. Days are 25–30°C, the outdoor parks and Global Village are open, and you can be outside at noon. From June to August it's over 40°C and everything moves indoors — the hotels are much cheaper, but the trip becomes malls and pools only.
Easier than almost anywhere outside India. Most large hotels have an Indian restaurant or a Jain-friendly menu on request, Bur Dubai and Karama are full of Indian restaurants, and the big attractions all have vegetarian options. Tell us dietary needs and we'll pick hotels that handle them.
